Malaria advice and prophylaxis

Malaria is a serious disease that occurs in tropical areas and is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. If not detected and treated promptly, it can have fatal consequences.

Just a single mosquito bite is all it takes for someone to become infected.

Recognizing Malaria Symptoms

It's important to be aware of the symptoms of malaria, especially if you plan to travel to high-risk areas. Look out for the following signs:

- High temperature of 38°C or above
- Feeling hot and shivery
- Headaches
- Vomiting
- Muscle pains
- Diarrhoea

Symptoms usually appear between 7 and 18 days after getting infected. However, in some cases, they may not show up for up to a year, or sometimes even longer.

Malaria is found in over 100 countries, primarily in tropical regions. These include:

- Large parts of Africa and Asia
- Central and South America
- Haiti and the Dominican Republic
- Some areas in the Middle East
- Certain Pacific islands
